Have just done an oil change on my car (2 litre 16v vectra) am I supposed to leave a while before I start the engine up 2 give the new oil chance to go through the engine ?|||no, just go|||nope, just drive off.|||No not really, you can just drive it as soon as your done and that will get all the oil flowing!|||Did you change the filter.|||old fashioned now adays with the modern lubricants it's not necessary|||No need to wait ... the oil will not circulate until the engine is started.|||If you have changed the filter as well you may need to run it for a few seconds to fill the filter, the oil pressure warning light may stay on for a little longer than normal maybe 5 seconds, make sure the level is correct before you start it though!|||No. The fresh oil goes into the engine crank case just like the old oil did, so no need to wait for it to distribut or anything like that. As long as you DID put oil back in no harm will be done. The only thing you might want to do while it is sitting is to check the oil level on the dip stick and make sure the level is in the full range cause sometimes it will actually take a little more to fill it.|||When doing oil changes you should pour some oil in the oil filter so it will lubricate the engine sooner when you start it.
When you start the engine after an oil change do not rev the engine until it has idled some and the oil has moved to all the main lubrication points so you don't damage it prematurely.|||no...if your oil level is full start it up......|||For that car you should be using Castrol Magnatec or better (5w/40).
If you have tried to cut corners by putting poor quality oil in then you could be in trouble wth that size car.|||Oil won't go through the engine until after you start it up. But like you should always do, no hard tromping for the first couple miles to give all parts time to get well oiled.
Come to think of it, no hard tromping at all. Unnecessary strain on entire drivetrain and very fuel stupid at $4 + a gallon.|||By the time you've gone inside and washed the old oil off your hands, the new oil should be through the engine. Check the level before you start the engine though, and after the first run since changing the oil.|||it is when you do an engine rebuild that you disconnect the ht leads and turn the engine over for a while without it firing up so it pumps the oil down the empty oil gallerys, doing an oil change does not empty the oilt gallerys because it takes weeks and weeks for it to drain passed the oil pump back to the sump. but once you top up you are supposed to run the engine untill the oil pressure light goes out then top up again because when the engine first runs it refills the new oil filter which means the level will no longer be at the max mark on the dipstick|||You said you've changed the filter as well, so it is wise to wait like a Minuit to make sure the oil went through every thing then you can drive.
