How to change oil in my 1979 Yamaha 1100 Cruiser?

I own a 1979 Yamaha 1100 Special. It runs perfectly but is needing an oil change. I've changed oil in several cars and newer bikes but I'm not sure how to with this old bike, any ideas?

Note: I see one bolt directly under then engine, guessing that is the oil plug but I'm needing to replace the oil filter as well and do not want to take off the wrong thing. How to change oil in my 1979 Yamaha 1100 Cruiser?
You guessed correctly for the drain bolt.

The filter is in the front of the engine, just above the oil pan. Look for a large-ish finned cylindrical housing with a large bolt through the middle. Unscrew the bolt and the housing will come off. The filter is inside this housing. Make sure you don't lose the spring and pay attention to which end of the filter goes where. Check the condition of the o-ring between the housing and cranckase and replace it if necessary. How to change oil in my 1979 Yamaha 1100 Cruiser?
Also make sure you use 6 point sockets so as not to strip the head of the bolts!!!!!!

Can you bring your own oil to an oil change place?

Can you bring your own oil to an oil change place? And if so, is it significantly cheaper to do so?

I will be using synthetic oil at Valvoline oil change, the kind they don't have in the bulk barrels.

Thanks. Can you bring your own oil to an oil change place?
You can bring your own oil they just won't charge you for the oil.
In the USA, most packages are pre-programmed into the computer and they don't allow for subtraction or items, only additional items, like... $x.xx per quart, extra quarts of oil over the 5 they have in the PM package.

You most likely can bring your own oil, but the price won't change because of no "subtraction" A cool manager might give you the difference in a credit, discount or merchandise, but I would say you're better off doing it yourself since a filter only costs an average of $4.99 (I buy Baldwin,Motorcraft or Wix/NapaGold/MileagePlus only) and oil disposal is free at almost any parts house... or garage that burns motor oil in their furnace/heater.

You also won't take a chance of having the "lube tech" who knows little about mechanics under/over-torquing your drain plug or oil filter. Yes, it happens all the time. Can you bring your own oil to an oil change place?
It depends on the place. For example when you take your car to most places they actually will not only NOT let you use your own oil they will only use the manufacted specified oil ratings or above.

Its how they make money. Secondly, 8 times out of ten if you were to buy the amount of oil and the filter (which they replace, included in the charge) it will cost you MORE to get the same oil in the amount you need.

HOWEVER, in your case your actually putting in something better than what they have like myself. If they will not put in a synthetic then u probably shouldnt be using them. So YES a GOOD place will do what you ask them to do but will likely reiterate that it will not be under any "unsaid" warranty that they offer
A fast oil change plave won't allow you to carry in your own oil or filter. Don't sweat it though, any new car dealer will! Can you bring your own oil to an oil change place?
you can and if you use synthetic it will be around the same price but if you use regular it will be like 4$ cheaper
You can, but that slike bringing your own hamburger to MacDonalds and saying "here cook this for me"
I took my car in for an oil change, I supplied the oil and I was only charger for the filter, in Scotland
i do no think that is a good idea

How often does the C-class need an oil change?

I know they can go a really long time before the very first oil change, but what about subsequent changes? How often does the C-class need an oil change?
The in-car computer will alert you when your oil need changing, however, I kept mine (C-200K 2001, W210 model) at every 12000km. Tip to look into, always use the same oil, do not flush your engine every time you change your oil, best sequence is flush once with every 2 oil change. Never completely drain off your gear oil, keep an close eye on the gear oil level in between services. The other clue is the temperature indicator, if it raise faster then usual in normal condition, do take action, in high end car like this, prevention is always cheaper then cure.
i take mine in every 20,000 miles i think and let my delar do itHow often does the C-class need an oil change?
It's a function of how far you drive and how hard you push the motor. The beautiful thing about recent Mercedes cars is that the service reminder system will compute the correct change interval based on your driving, and tell you when the change is due with a dashboard warning. You will probably go at least 10K miles, and possibly much further between changes. Just one warning, though: you must always use full synthetic oil with this car. You also must reset the service reminder system after the oil change.

Update:

Your car has a sophisticated service warning system, that can actually monitor the condition of the oil. There is no need to change oil more frequently than indicated. Check your owner's manual if you don't believe me.
the Mercedes-Benz is a fine Automobile and like any other auto needs to be serviced on a regular basis, for the engine to avoid damage,I'm an Ase master certified technician, and would still recommend changing the oil every 6000-7500 miles. How often does the C-class need an oil change?
3 months or 3000 miles, why take the chance. However I would think your owners manual would tell you that answer.
that's bull, the oil change for brake in is the same there is a breaking per your manual... regular oil changes is 3000 miles

and filter every change,, for Pennzoil synthetic oil 7500 miles..

if you don't change oil and filter regular the life of your engine

will decrease by 1/3rd

If it's Nissan, it's a steal.

If it's not, no deal, even if they pay you.

The brand name dealer's [Nissan] maint inspection is very valuable, and only the brand name dealer has the proprietary database and special tools to do it right. How do an oil change and tire rotation cost?
That was a good deal. I usually pay $20 for a tire rotation, and $25 for an oil change.

  • How do I turn off my oil change light on an 05 impala?

I got my oil changed last week, and my "change oil" light still comes on every time I start my car? I tried to open my fuse box to reset and Im having troubles opening that..lol. Help pls.How do I turn off my oil change light on an 05 impala?
Read in your owners manual. How do I turn off my oil change light on an 05 impala?
There are a couple of "tricks" that are used to reset that light.. these are not a joke, I own a 00 Grand Prix and an 05 Monte Carlo and they all have the same GM set up.. ok the first one..

Turn the key to the "On" position then back to off, do that 3 times and on the 3rd time leave it in the "On" position, then depress the gas pedal to the floorboard 3 times. Turn the key back to the "Off" position and it should be reset. If that does not work here is the other one that I know..

Turn the ignition on and turn the radio off. Push down the tune nob until settings is displayed on the radio. Push the seek button until you see oil life. Push the next button on the radio until you see the word reset then push the tune nob again. this will reset the oil timer on the car and change oil light should turn off.

Good luck, and contact me if you need any other help with this, I know it can be frustrating. How do I turn off my oil change light on an 05 impala?
Here's the easy way to do it. What you'll do is just sit in the car, turn the key on, and then immediately push the accelerator all the way to the floor and back once every second until the light begins to flash...then, you're all set.
Turn ignition key on without starting, within the first 5 seconds, pump the gas pedal (all its travel)at least 3 times.

How much oil can i lose if i forgot to put oil cap on following oil change?

I took my car in for an oil change and they forgot to put my oil cap on. Luckily i didnt drive my car around over the weekend but i did drive to work this morning which is 20 miles away. Oil got all over the underside of my hood and did spill somewhat on the engine. Can any damage be done from this? Also should i just vent at the mechanic? BTW I drive a 2007 Ford Focus. Thanks for the help!!How much oil can i lose if i forgot to put oil cap on following oil change?
It will have lost enough oil possibly to be too low for the engine. You need it topped up and a new cap before you run the engine again.

It is also a fire risk until it has been cleaned up proprly and can cause problems with electrics and particularly in the spark plug wells where it can cause damage to the plug caps and cause poor running.

You need to talk to the people that did the oil change about what they are going to do to clear up the mess and provide a cap and oil.How much oil can i lose if i forgot to put oil cap on following oil change?
open the hood and check the dipstick. wipe up any splashes off the engine to avoid nasty smells. tell the "mechanic" that he forgot to put the cap back on. Id personally not go back. unless it was an honest mistake. put the cap on, and if you have not lost too much oil, go to the shop and tell him you want it topped off for free. or better yet call him and see if you can buy oil at advance auto or something and get him to pay you backHow much oil can i lose if i forgot to put oil cap on following oil change?
Unless the oil was two quarts down when you checked it you didn't lose enough to hurt anything.
