Oil change?

I just got a new 2007 chevy silverado when should i get the 1st oil changeOil change?
You really should consult your owners manual. A lot of the newer vehicles can go as much a 100,000 before their first oil change. My SUV (1998 Mercedes ML320) has a counter for my services and it's every 10,000 miles. Your owners manual is your best bet or contact the sales person at the Chevy dealership as they should also know this.

Good luck and congratulations on the new vehicle purchase!
A 100k between oil changes? 10k maybe on high end cars possibly using synthetics. Consult your owners manual and meet or exceed the oil change intervals recommended. I would keep it between 3k to 5k between oil changes.

Oil change?
What does the owner's manual say? Just follow it.

Some people say to do the first oil change on a brand new car after 500 miles and then follow the recommended interval.

I do not know if it's a must, but it would not hurt anything and might be a good idea.
Kevin, check the owner manual. You can't go wrong if perform maintenance on their schedule.Oil change?
I always changed oil in my a new cars after 500 miles.

But you should always check your owners manual.

Thanks Mike
nowadays usually every 5000 miles. I still change mine at 3000 for my own piece of mind but every 5000 miles is usually the right time.
whenever it tells you to in your owners manuel. all cars are different now. my 2008 ford escape says I can go 7500 miles but I wouldn't go that long.
id get the first one around 3 thousand on it,what ever you start out with try and stay with it,this way you,ll get in a habit of changing the oil at a certain amount of miles all the time, its easier to keep up with the routine that way, also read the owners manual,it tells a lot of good information on it,lots of things in the book you,ll need to know about it,good luck with it.
The first oil change should be between 3000-4000 miles. After that I think it recomends every 4-5 thousand depending on driving conditions. I live in Phoenix, and most of my miles are city miles. I use 10-W40 and change mine every 5000. If you drive mostly on the freeway, you can change the oil less often.
change your oil every day....

thats what i would do
Soon! A new engine that is breaking in will be shaving off the rough spots and leaving metal particles running around in the oil. Most will be caught in the filter of course but the finer stuff wont. I would recommend blowing the $25 on an oil change certainly before you get 1000 miles on it. considering what you paid for that truck, call it a small investment.
While the car manual is the best bet for the first change an oil analysis can give u an idea of the oil condition %26amp; hence the next change. Road conditions, braking, starts %26amp; stops all contribute to oil deterioration so I've personally always found the oil analsis route to be a prudent guide.
As most people have already said, the owners manual is a good place to start as well as the people who sold you the truck and the mechanics at the dealership. Nowadays cars are built to go longer before each and every oil change. As Pastinky said, their SUV has a counter so they get a service every 10,000 miles, other vehicles may be every 5,000 or as some car manufacturers have advertised 100,000 before the first oil change. It really is dependent on the car manufacturer and their recommendations. I'm surprised no one at the car dealership talked to you about this as generally in order for the warranty to be intact you have to service your car as they recommend (the car manufacturer).

Every car and manufacturer is different. You need to look in your vehicles owner manual, if it is not there contact the dealership where you purchased your vehice. My brother is a shop foreman for a very high end car manufacturers for years as well as a mechanic (totally over 25 years of experience with this particular car manufacturer) and they go strictly by the car manufacturers recommendation even for the first service. Food for thought.
European Countries go 7 to 10,000 miles.

It does conserve on Oil.

I have since gone to 5000 after reading the article.
